Aligning the Defence: Manchester United

GOALKEEPER

Van Der Sar has finally retired .. so we need a replacement as soon as possible as Kusczak is not first team material. The two options which have been speculated are David De Gea & Neuer. Personally I admire Neuer but if SAF sees De Gea as a better option then he must have something special which we cannot see at the moment. Moreoever this deal seems to be done and dusted according to media reports.

DEFENDERS

Evra has been particularly poor in this season and I dont think I’ll ever forget the fact that we conceded the first goal due to his mistake (according to my analysis). I think his time as a useful United player is over .. we can sell him for some good money as he is still highly rated and get a more defensive … solid left back as both the Da Silva twins are attacking in nature.

Wes Brown: Sell him .. shadow of the player, he once was

Da Silva twins: Both Rafael and Fabio have shown great promise and maturity this year, however they still need to fine tune their defending skills and reading of the came so that they are not caught out of position. Selling Evra and buying a solid full back is necessary as the twins have looked prone to injuries since they have come to Old Trafford. They need to improve their fitness if they want to cement their places in the first team.

Vidic: My favourite player in the squad. Solid, brave, determined and ruthless as ever.

Ferdinand: Must protect his back from injuries .. and continue teaching the two young guns, Smalling and Evans.

Smalling: Has been a revelation of the season bar Chicharito. Has been solid at centre back except a couple of games and has been more convincing at Right Back IMHO. Needs to learn from the two senior defenders and improve his reading of the game.

Evans: It seems he has lost some confidence, especially after the arrival of Smalling. Needs to keep a stronger focus on the game and improve his reading, His last-ditch tackles need an improvement too.

O’Shea: Injury problems have hampered his season but he has all the attributes to bounce back and play a role of a useful squad player, his versatility is a great asset to the team.

CONCLUSION

So here is my opinion. Neuer or De Gea as Goalkeepr, sell Brown & either ask Evra to play defensively against better sides or sell him, buy a solid full-back and our defence is spot on.
