Allardyce to have heart operation

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce will undergo surgery on a coronary artery on Friday and the club hope to have him back at work early next week.

Allardyce requires an angioplasty – an operation to widen the artery using an artificial tube called a stent.

“They are saying if everything goes according to plan then (he will be back) in the next couple of days,” said Rovers assistant manager Neil McDonald.

“We are hoping he will be back for the Monday before the Chelsea game.”

Allardyce, who turned 55 last month, “complained of brief episodes of chest discomfort” according to the club.
