It was not long ago when Sony Ericsson dived into Windows Mobile niche with Xperia X1, now SE’s second device in the same niche, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 has been announced, it is expected to be released in last quarter of the running year. Once again Sony Ericsson has looked to pack industry leading features to grab maximum share of the market.

Xperia X2 is a pioneer in Windows Mobile as it’s the first Windows Mobile smartphone with an 8 megapixel camera and WVGA video recording and it’s actually the first ever full QWERTY phone to have that sort of imaging prowess as well.

The XPERIA X2 will be available in two colors – Elegant Black and Modern Silver boasting vanilla Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional with Sony Ericsson’s brand new X-panels interface. Rather than playing second fiddle to Mobile Shell, X panels have gone a long way since the XPERIA X1 and have turned into a full featured system for using various animated and interactive homescreens

The XPERIA X2 measures 110 x 54 x 16 mm and weighs 155 g. The dimensions and weight are almost the same compared to the old XPERIA though X2 is a tag wider due to the larger 3.2″ display. The back of the X2 is made from stainless steel and is quite immune to fingerprints.Xperiaq X2 once again incorporates the slide and tilt mechanism with a smoother slide than its predecessor (or arc slider as SE call it).

Apart from full qwerty keypad and optical trackpad, X2 has an accelerometer sensor, but unfortunately, it will not be configured to autorotate. The 3.5mm jack will serve the double purpose of handsfree plugin and a TV-Out.

Internal memory of X2 is quite the same as its predecessor i-e 110 MB storage, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM. Xperia X2 also supports a microSD (TransFlash) up to 16GB. Its connectivity options are listed below:

The much awaited 8 MP, 3264×2448 pixels, autofocus, LED flash shows a lot of promise and boasts features like Touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, image stabilizer, smart contrast. The camera is also enabled to shoot videos @30fps. A secondary camera for video calling is also present

You can download motion based games along with 4 pre-installed titles. Push Email, IM, RSS Feeds, GPS with A-GPS support, XVID support, youtube application and pre-installed Blogging software are also a welcome addition

A stand by time Up to 500 h (2G) / Up to 640 h (3G), talk time of Up to 10 h (2G) / Up to 6 h (3G) and music play up to 20h is promised thanks to Li-Po 1500 mAh battery. It means the battery will last for 2 days of moderate user just like X1′s battery lasted.
