Why Manchester United need Villa & Silva
Aaah, main problem for United once again is scoring goals, not creating chances.
We are still very good at creating chances, even after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo was not much of a winger in his latter days, he was a striker, even when he played as a winger he had the habit of cutting in, which helped him score a lot of goals but also left United prone to counter attacks.
Nani will never fill his boots imho, Valencia is a pure winger and he needs a season or so to come to terms with life at United, you can see from his recent performances that he has started to feel home at United.
David Silva will be a great addition to United as he can play as left winger, support striker and center mid, we need some rreinforcement n the mid as Scholes and Giggsy are bound to hang up boots soon.

Now lets come to our currently available strikers, which are Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Welbeck and Macheda… Rooney and Berba both do not individually assure 20+ league goals and 30+ overall goals a season, Owen will be used as an impact substitute due to his fitness problems, Welbeck & Macheda are not yet ready for the big step-up but they will get a few games as the season goes on. Thats why we need a 20+ league goals striker who is always at the right place, Torres wont come to United, so Villa is the perfect option.

So lets hope both the Davids come to United

Obertan’s gonna be a start for us and I think he’ll be fine on the left wing and anywhere else that we may need him in the attack. A finisher of Villa’s quality would be very welcome and I hope Fergie makes an exception to his transfer age rule for him (if the stories are to be believed about his transfer being a done deal) but as for that CAM there’s only one player that I want to step into that role and that’s Yoann Gourcuff.
We’ve got the Laurent Blanc/Fergie connection, the fact that he gave up such a massive talent in Gabby Obertan to us for £3m, and the rumors swirling around that Blanc might be in line to take over for Fergie when he retires (whenever that is).
Gourcuff is, and I don’t think this can be considered a hyperbolic statement, the next Zidane and he’s precisely the sort of CAM we need. He can score with both feet and his head, and we’ve all seen the PSG goal. His vision, dribbling, passing, it’s all there.
Villa and Gourcuff need to come through and if Gourcuff doesn’t make it to the WC his price will be that much more reasonable. I sincerely hope that Fergie’s got his eye him.
A thoguth just came to my mind while reading this, what will happen to Berba if we buy Villa?? Will he like demoted to bench?? We cant even sell him for the money we paid for him.
I rate Gourcuff as a good player, but cant really say he is the next Zidane. Same was said about Samir Nasri, but he didnt make the impact he should have made on EPL. EPL’s physicality and pace is undoing for many players, Gourcuff isnt an exception, he hasnt proved himslef on the big stage yet… I hope SAF is keeping tabs on him.
On the other hand Silva has proved himself at both levels, club and country, and his hard working playing style suits United.
Where was Obertan in the previous season — he was loaned to Lorient he made 15 appearances in the last season and scored only 1 goal, so Blanc didnt rate him as a player good enough to remain at Bordeaux. Even Lorient didnt give him a lot of games, so Blanc did good business to sell him for 3m. So he wont give us a bargain for Gourcuff, 15-20m will be minimum for his team’s main playmaker!
I think Mourinho may have a better chance of taking over from SAF
Fair point about the Gourcuff/Nasri comparison, I watch quite a bit of Ligue 1 though and his performaneces (especially last season) were, week in and week out, what won that team the title. He’s gotten off to a slow start this season (early injury) and his chances with Les Bleus are severely hampered by an incompetent coach. It’ll take a good showing at this WC to get people’s attention but lets hope they even make it first. Nasri is a bit too injury prone for me liking and to be honest even after seeing him play I never got the Zidane comparisons. Same with Robinho and Freddy Adu being dubbed the next Pele. You can see them play and realize that they aren’t that player but for whatever reason when I see Gourcuff play I can completely see the comparisons. But like you said, he still does have a good deal to prove.
As for Berba, I don’t know where he’d go if we got Villa. If we got David Villa in January Berbatov would most certainly have to move to the bench unless we played him as a CAM. And if we benched him he’d be asking for his exit just like Tevez did.
With Obertan, when he was loaned to Lorient I believe he got injured early on and the injury even carried over to his move to United. Fergie apparently knew about the injury but had been watching Obertan for quite some time. The whole “Blanc gives us Obertan to set up a move to coach our team” idea was simply speculation but I still don’t really know why Blanc didn’t give him more of a runout. He’s shown that he’s a remarkable player and I can certainly see him playing as well as, if not better than, Plasil, Gouffran, or whoever plays on the wing for Bordeaux. It’s odd.
Silva could be a could buy but much in the same way that the physicality of the league could undo a player (although I don’t think it Gourcuff would have any issue with it as he faired very well in the CL matches last year with Chelsea) the same could most certainly happen to Silva. If he could handle it though he and Villa would be amazing signings.
Fergie knows that he must move for someone in the winter. I don’t know if that’ll be a striker or a goal-scoring midfielder (or both) but we need help in one of those two areas. Our midfield creates a bevy of chances but the strikers cannot finish them. If we had a midfielder that could terrorize defenses from the middle though, it would also open up a number of other options. I think Anderson should play in a strictly attacking role from here on out. That’s where he plays best and he’s being wasted as a defensive midfielder.

The importance of Gourcuff will make him more difficult to get, I dont watch Ligue 1 too often, but I stay in touch with whats happening and imho if Gourcuff plays like the last season, Bordeaux will have back to back titles in their bag.
Well… my favourite team was France, but now I dont like France thanks to Mr. Domenech the great! No further comments on him.
Obertan still needs to settle in a bit, I think in this season he will be used as an impact sub to give him taste of life in EPL as he is still raw. Next season will be the one in which he will be given time to shine. And the season after that will be the one in which he will perform to his full extent.
Berba will finally have to leave if Villa comes, unless Rooney is played in an attacking mid role or the formation is changed back to 4-3-3
Btw why not Aguero instead of Villa???
